The 2015 Ford Edge, should be quite a hit if Ford did everything right, and we have no doubt they did, as the previous model sold really well compared to its competition such as the Mazda CX9 that it shared the same platform with, Toyota Highlander and even Nissan Murano.
With a new design for new model, technology and similar price, Ford will keep the pressure going on its competition and possibly grab another excellent selling year. Borrowing from Ford Fusion, and not just taking some of its best features like handling and other goodies, but also when it comes to styling. The new 2015 Ford Edge looks more modern and elegant then before improving its road presence while you will be easily noticed on any parking.
We already mentioned the new platform so let’s check it out first. Ford will use its own similar platform as seen in the new Fusion model and S-Max concept, and will have a wheelbase of 2824-mm and overall length at 4689-mm making it is all bigger than its previous model. The mid-sized SUV will still offer just two-rows of seats, and if you wish for more they will kindly point you to their bigger models such as the Explorer or the Everest if you are living somewhere outside the US.
When it comes to engine its still not known how things will go, but don’t expect many changes to come as the previous season’s model with the 2.0-liter Ecoboost turbocharged 4-cylinder engine did an excellent job and sold so well. The other option will be the 3.5-liter V6 that pumps out 285hp at 6500 rpm and 253-lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Another option is the most powerful 3.7 V6 engine that delivers 305 hp at 6500 rpm an 280 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. All-wheel drive will be optional, if any changes to the 6-speed automatic transmission are to be made, remains to be seen still.
2015 Ford Edge Hybrid
At this point those are the details about engines that we currently have but rumors and reports suggest that there could be hybrid model also. These are only rumors but we know that there would be many drivers interested in hybrid powertrain that is similar to one we have in Fusion. If this is delivered in 2015 Ford Edge, than it would be significantly more complete vehicle.
What we do know though, is that the new 2015 Ford Edge comes with exterior and interior upgrades. The extra-large grille with its hexagonal shape and narrow headlights at the sides, gives the car a happier and friendlier look. It will come with fully functioning active grille shutters with automatic start-stop air curtain, which means the car will have better aerodynamics as well as better cooling system so expect a smoother ride and better handling. Other updates include fully assisted parking aid system, obstacle-avoiding system and additional options and details still to come.
Release Date Of 2015 Ford Edge
We can expect to see it by the end of the year or most likely during the first quarter of the next year, prices are also expected to stay the same with the starting package to be around $28,995. All in all the new Edge has a lot to offer and we can’t wait to see them up close. Additional details will be delivered as soon as we get one on full time test.
