Over the years, Mercedes S-Class is successfully setting new standards for luxury sedan cars. In every possible aspect of technology, engineering, design or safety concerns, Mercedes is on the top of the ladder. Refreshed 2015 Mercedes S Class will again prove to be one of the best models in the luxury sedan market.
During past year we were introduced to the new sixth generation of S-Class with the S550, with a twin-turbo V-8, and now selection gets better with new S600 flagship and S65 AMG models. It’s not only sedan, like a replacement for the discontinued CL series Coupe, Mercedes introduces S-Class Coupe to the market allowing more choices to customers.
Compared with sedan, coupe has some changes in the roofline, and more firm styling of the rear end. From front details is much like sedans, with slight changes on the grille, but altogether gives one more aggressive yet stylish appearance. Designers also pinned back full LED headlights, and angled them towards the grille. Each featuring 47 Swarovski crystals, producing a uniquely striking appearance. Lower fascia is reworked with softer edges around the lower air dam. Air intakes optimization improves aerodynamics, allows better air supply to engine but also better brake cooling.
2015 Mercedes S Class Coupe
Looking into interior, Coupe is even more similar to Sedan. Basically the same design language, but in slimmer form. Much sportier look with flat bottom steering wheel and high contrast materials. The HVAC vents replaced rectangular and the dashboard looks extended with larger infotainment screen.
To date, 2015 S-Class includes two versions. Base S550 contains a twin-turbocharged 4.6-liter V-8 engine, with power sent through seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift controls and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive (4Matic). This engine produces 449 hp which is more than enough for the vehicle of this size.
For those more oriented towards luxury and glorious speed, S63 AMG is joining the market. It has all standard S-Class qualities combined with extraordinary 577-horsepower, 664-pound-foot twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 engine and rear-biased 4MATIC all-wheel drive. All this makes this sedan a car that reaches 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds coming close to supercar territory.
There are much more innovations coming from Mercedes this year. Adaptive suspension that enables coupe to lean more into curves for a better driving experience, while the S63 goes further with a full air suspension tuned for increased handling ability. Some of the features associated with S-Class cars are Distronic Plus steering system, along with lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and multiple sensors and radar systems. Premium features may include pre-braking with pedestrian detection, night vision and a standard panoramic sunroof with automatic tint control.
