Alfa Romeo is one of the most loved car manufacturers in the World because their cars always manage to leave an great impression on their buyers which was also the case with the 159, a car which looked better than any other car in its price range and that was quite luxurious as well for its price. However, it was quite short lived because it had its problems and it just couldn’t compete in terms of reliability with cars such as Audi and Mercedes. Its direct successor is going to be the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia, a car which has been released on 24th of June 2015 on company’s 105th anniversary.
However, the car won’t go on sale by the mid of 2016 mainly because Alfa Romeo wants to further develop the car in order to make it as good as possible. While there aren’t that many details about it just yet, rumors are saying that it might come on the market with a base price of around $36,000 which is a bit higher than the average of its class but if these rumors end being true, than the car might be worth every dollar.
2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia Release Date
While its predecessor has been a front wheel drive car, the Giulia is going to be based on a rear wheel drive chassis, meaning it will be one of the best driving cars in its class. This is going to be possible because it will share chassis components as well as some of its engines with certain Ferrari and Chrysler models, meaning it will be quite a bit more powerful than the car it is replacing.
In fact, the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia is going to be available with powers ranging from a mild 180 horsepower all the way to more than 500 horsepower. The base engine in the US is going to be a 1.4 liter turbocharged inline 4 with 180 horsepower that will offer good fuel economy as well as good performance. The mid-range model will get a 1.8 liter turbocharged inline 4 which is going to come in two power levels. The first is going to offer about 200 horsepower while the second will go all the way up to 330 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful small engines out there.
The top of the range sport model on the other hand will be the Quadrifoglio model and it is likely going to feature the same 3.0 liter twin-turbocharged V6 unit from Maserati which was developed in cooperation with Ferrari. This unit is capable of delivering 503 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. With this amount of power it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in about 3.9 seconds which is better than many competitors in segment. At this point we tend to believe that the Giulia will only come with rear wheel drive and an 8 speed automatic derived from that of the Ghibli. If this happens we are pretty sure that all-wheel drive model will be offered also.
On the outside, the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia is going to be quite impressive in terms of design, mostly because it will have a similar chassis to the Ghibli, meaning it will bring similar dimensions. Images that we were able to see quite clearly suggest that this will be one of the nicest models in the segment and we are getting the impression of a four-door coupe rather than just an executive car. The front of the car is going to be the usual for an Alfa Romeo while at the back we are getting individual tail-lights which give it that distinctive Italian look. As soon as we take a look at the Quadrifoglio model it is obvious that this is performance oriented vehicle with large intakes in front segment and heat extractors on hood and behind the front wheels.
There are many things that we like on both exterior and in interior of this vehicle. For example we get large carbon ceramic brake discs and large brake calipers so you can be sure that you will always get optimal brake force even when you push it harder. On top of that rear wheels have separate calipers for handbrake which is a really nice touch. Interior is clean and driver oriented while the steering wheel mounted start/stop push button in red will give you the felling that you are in a supercar.
Simplest way to describe interior of this car is just to say, luxury and sportiness. The seats as well as the instruments are all going to be quite sporty for its class but luxury and comfort aren’t going to be absent. In fact, the 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia will offer standard leather upholstery, satellite navigation, heated seats and automatic climate control as well as all the usual commodities. On top of that, in the rear there is likely going to be individual seats for a sportier look.
