In order to fill gaps in the market, many manufacturers throughout the World usually re-brand certain models in order to give the general public a car with their badge on it, even though it isn’t exactly what it seems to be. This is exactly the case with the 2016 Buick Encore which is in fact an Opel Mokka that is built in South Korea by GM.
The car managed to get on the US market with minimal changes starting with 2013 and since then it became a top contender on the market thanks to its great looks, good interior space and good fuel economy. Few upgrades that Buick delivered to this car improved it in crucial segments and allow it to be very competitive and to return good sale results. However, the car started to feel dated so GM had to do something about it.
Because of that they are releasing the 2016 model which is set to hit the market by the mid of 2016 or even slightly earlier, when it will come for a price of around $25,000. When we compare it to a currently available version it is obvious that the prices will go slightly up but we know that there isn’t much space for increase if Buick wants to stay competitive. New car is expected to be a bit lighter, more powerful as well as quite a bit more fuel efficient. There is also going to be a new transmission which is going to be offered as a standard feature on most models.
Good sale results of previous model were achieved thankfully to the nice looking exterior. The most important feature and advantage of the 2016 Buick Encore over competition is going to be its exterior design which has been one of the main selling points and attracted a lot of buyers to the current model as well. Just like before, the general shape of the car is going to be kept, so it will be quite high and compact, just like a tiny SUV. On top of that, the car is going to retain all those black plastic accents which may seem a bit foolish on a Buick but in fact these are going to make the car look quite tough and ready to go anywhere. The newer generation is going to see improvements in terms of lighting, so it will get LEDs both in the front and at the back as a standard feature. Dual exhaust system is going to make its way to the rear bumper and will be nicely integrated giving it slightly sportier look.
On the interior there is going to be a lot of work done so the car will be able to compete with the best in its class. While it will now stun anyone with the amount of space inside the cabin, the Encore is going to offer an above the average experience with standard leather upholstery, an infotainment system and even an automatic climate control unit. Optional extras are going to include a navigation unit, a sunroof as well as a rear infotainment system.
2016 Buick Encore Engine
Under the hood of this vehicle we are likely going to see the same engine as before for the base unit. The 1.4 liter turbocharged inline 4 is likely going to offer a bit more power at around 150 hp and a bit more than 150 lb-ft of torque. While it doesn’t seem like much, it should be more than enough to make the car good to drive inside the city and quite capable on highway. The four wheel drive system is most likely going to be dropped for this engine which is both good and bad.
All-wheel drive will likely come on a new and more powerful engine, a 1.6 liter turbocharged inline 4 which could offer more than 180 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque and thanks to a new 9 speed gearbox it should make the 2016 Buick Encore a lot more capable than the older generation, both in terms of raw performance and also fuel consumption. However, it hasn’t been officially announced just yet so there are a lot of things which may change until the car is going to be released.
