The F150 has always been one of the best-selling trucks on the US market, not because it was the best in every aspect but mostly because it offered the best compromise out there. The latest generation to which the 2016 Ford F150 belongs on the other hand is a bit different because it is the first truck and one of the first cars to use a full aluminum body.
It is even more impressive that Ford kept their pricing model almost unchanged, so with prices starting at just $26,000 for V6 aluminum bodied F150 is not only good, but actually impressive. The new 2016 model is a carryover of a car that came with new engines, transmissions and even trims. It is in fact one of the most fuel efficient and most powerful trucks on the market and despite the fact that there are no diesel engines in the range to help with towing and fuel economy, it is also one of the most capable cars in this regard.
2016 Ford F150 Price
The biggest piece of news on the new F150 is in fact the announcement of a Raptor model which was considered extinct until a few months ago. This is likely going to be introduced on the market some time in 2016 for a base price of roughly $50,000, meaning it will be slightly more expensive than the previous generation. This is because Ford made it even crazier than it was, so it is even more impressive in terms of both performance and looks.
Luckily Ford didn’t just work on the platform of the car so even the interior of the new gen F150 is miles better than before. While it may not impress through its equipment level offered in the base form, the materials as well as the comfort offered by the cabin is now a lot better than before. The dashboard is made out of soft touch materials while the seats, even on the base truck, are cushioned much better and they even offer a lot more lateral support. The Raptor is said to offer a similar interior to the mid-range model of the truck but the seats as well as the steering wheel are going to be specifically made for it with usage of high quality leather.
On the exterior the truck is just as impressive as on the interior. It has more muscular lines which are meant to show that it is ready for anything. On top of that, the front end has a massive grille with two big headlights that come as standard with Xenon and LED technology which is a first in the truck industry. The side of the truck on the other hand features extractor vents for the more powerful engines while at the back there is a hidden exhaust system on the usual models and a dual straight exhaust system on the Raptor. This pickup also gets Fox shocks as well as special 18 inch wheels with all-terrain tires.
Engine wise, the 2016 Ford F150 is available with five different options. There are two EcoBoost mills, a 2.7 and a 3.5 liter V6, with power ranging from 310 to 365 horsepower and as much as 440 lb-ft of torque. There are also two naturally aspirated engines, a 3.5 liter V6 and a 5.0 liter V8, good for up to 385 horsepower. All of these offer great fuel economy for a truck as well as great performance mostly thanks to a 6 speed automatic which is both smooth and also fast in changing gears. Since new generation comes with 700 pounds lighter body we expected more in fuel economy segment but still it does offer among the best results. Best you will be getting is 19/26 mpg in city/highway driving.
The Raptor gets a special version of the 3.5 liter EcoBoost which should be good for more than 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. This will be only available with a four wheel drive system with lockable differentials and Ford’s all new 10 speed automatic gearbox which will also see its way to the usual model of the F150 starting with 2017. With this impressive addition to the lineup of models we are sure that 2016 Ford F150 will again take one of the top spots in segment.
