The 2016 Mazda 3 is one of the most competitive compact vehicles on American market. It comes in two different version, one as a compact sedan and another as a hatchback. Every year this vehicle comes with some fancy updates which made it one of the biggest rivals of highly popular vehicles from its tough class like Toyota Corolla, ford Focus and Honda Civic.
For this year Mazda3 comes with the new engine updates, fancy new telematics and changes in its telescopic steering which make it even more fun to drive than before. It is very refined from the inside and from the outside, and although being little bit less roomy than Chevy Cruze for example it still has enough space inside the cabin.
When it comes to exterior styling there are two versions from which buyers can choose from making it quite complete vehicle that allow drivers to choose what they like more. In the front it comes with refreshed grille that replaces the earlier “happy face” grille that was also decently popular. Hatchback version looks quite different than the other vehicles in the class, which can attract buyers that are usually not into this kind of cars. New model comes with repositioned A pillars which gives better visibility to the driver.
The 2016 Mazda 3 comes with very comfortable but not that roomy cabin. Front seats are exceptionally comfortable and adjustable, they are very good for the longer rides. Base version sedan is the only model that doesn’t come with touch screen display, in all other models this screen is 7 inches big and it can be also controlled by the buttons placed between front seats. Display is placed on central console and it hosts infotainment system and very futuristic telematics application. One of the biggest remarks when it comes to this model is the lack of leg space for passengers in the back seat. Back seat can fit only two adult passengers while and if you try to transport more than two adults it will not be a pleasant ride. Back seat can also be folded in 60/40 ratio to give more cargo space, and in the hatchback cargo area is 47 cubic feet big.
There are two different engine options in this model, and for performance improvements we will need to wait for the MazdaSpeed. Base model comes with 2.0 liter engine displacement and it is naturally aspired four cylinder that can develop 155 horsepower and 150 pound feet of torque. The other bigger and more powerful engine is the 2.5 liter inline four cylinder unit with the ability to produce 185 horsepower and 185 pound feet of torque.
These engines come with nice fuel efficiency, when smaller unit is combined with manual transmission expect it to return 29/41 mpg and in case you opt for the automatic transmission it will offer 30/41 mpg. If you choose more powerful engine in combination with manual transmission figures drop slightly and small 3 will bring 25/37 mpg and with automatic it raises these numbers to 28/39 mpg. One of the most interesting models comes equipped with i-ELOOP Regenerative Engine Braking System that further improves fuel economy and in this case the 2.5 liter SkyActiv-G unit returns 29/40 mpg.
