The Impala is Chevrolet’s flagship sedan, a car which is able to offer everything from comfort, luxury all the way to performance. While it isn’t the best-selling car on the market it is certainly one of the better choices because 2016 Chevrolet Impala offers great value for money and the engine lineup that returns quite good fuel efficiency despite being quite powerful.
The 2016 Chevrolet Impala is a mild update of the 2015 model which includes a new trim level, more equipment inside the cabin as well as slightly updated engines which are going to use even less fuel than before. The car has already been introduced to the market and the new trim levels are going to be available starting with the summer of 2015. Knowing all this we can suggest that it will be offered in dealerships in the next few weeks.
Price will remain pretty much unchanged when compared to previous model so expect the Impala to start at slightly above $27,000 and go to as much as $41,000, a good price for a full size sedan. The only drawback we see with the new model is the fact that it will still be on the front wheel drive chassis which is great for fuel economy and safety, but the car simply isn’t as good to drive as a rear wheel drive models. This might change in the future with a rear wheel drive chassis borrowed from the ATS Cadillac, but there is still a bit of time until then.
Let’s start our small preview of the car with its exterior because this is the area where it received most changes. In fact, the 2016 Chevrolet Impala received a whole new trim level which is available from $995 to $1495, depending on the model of choice. This adds a brand new trunk spoiler which gives the car a more aggressive look, new 19 inch rims with black accents and high performance tires, an all-black paint with black accents, black brake calipers, subtle chrome hints on the sides and around the front grille for a really good look over the usual model. This new trim level will only go on sale starting with August 2015 under the name Midnight Edition Impala and it should only be available for a limited amount of time.
2016 Chevrolet Impala Changes
On the interior Chevrolet also did quite a bit of work so it should now feel more upmarket than before. It shares the same interior design with the 2015 model but the car now gets an optional Wi-Fi hotspot with LTE connectivity, a new infotainment system with a much better audio system as well as better front seats. All of these are meant to make the car more than just a fleet car and this was done because it could easily compete with the best in its class. If you opt for higher trims with leather you will be getting high quality leather for seats but also for the top layer of the dashboard. Center console brings large touchscreen and climate controls right under it while the instrument cluster offers all the most important drive information’s and trip info.
In terms of engines, new Impala is available with two different powertrains. The base model comes as a 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline 4 with 195 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque which is good for around 25 MPG on average thanks to its Start/Stop technology. The better engine would be the 3.6 liter V6 which can provide as much as 305 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque and around 23 MPG on average which is only a slight drop in fuel economy but big improvement in performances. Both of them come as standard with a 6 speed automatic which is both smooth and fast, offering a seamless gear change.
The V6 engine in 2016 Chevrolet Impala can also be had with CNG which is a massive deal because this basically cuts in half the running costs of the car, a massive bonus for people looking to put a lot of miles on the car. Unfortunately we are not going to see the naturally aspirated V8 from the concept car which is sad because the Impala really could have done great with that powerplant. Who knows what future brings, it would be wise for Chevy to offer this model with both hybrid powertrain and few turbocharged units so it would offer better fuel economy and in some cases even better performances.
